For nearly four decades, Karl-Heinz Drescher (1936–2011) defined the visual identity of the Berliner Ensemble. In 1962, Helene Weigel brought him to Brecht’s theater, where he designed posters, program booklets, and publications until 1999. His typographic and photographic posters—displayed on advertising pillars and building facades—shaped the cityscape of East Berlin and were repeatedly honored as the "best posters of the year."

Today, we give a voice to the man for whom Drescher created these works: through Brecht’s songs in collaboration with composer Hanns Eisler, texts, and poems. Bass Andrew Munn, mezzo-soprano Luzia Ostermann and pianist Jacob Greenberg perform.
